Q: Corvettes??????????
PLEASE HELP!
Im doing a research paper on the history of Corvettes, and these are the elements Im talking about:
1. Over the years the corvette has improved
2. The Corvette is one of the best American made cars
3. The Corvette has become famous nationwide and become an American icon
I nedd more so if you can think of anymore please don’t fret to post
A: Name all the corvettes from C1 to C6 and there years. Also if you want, list all of the corvette engines.
Q: corvettes?
i need a quote about corvettes, or cars in general…..(not a car quote, meaning that i want to like buy one, but a quote like “A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence.” ~Leopold Stokowski, not the best quote in the world, but whatever)
A: cars are like girls, easy to drive crazy
Q: How much are the new Corvettes selling for?
Suddenly EVERYONE seems to have one of the new Corvettes, which seems weird, since I thought they were one of the most expensive cars, and I don’t really live in a very rich area.
I could be wrong. I thought the same thing about Mustangs, to find out they were actually not that much.
Jeez, you could buy a house for that.
A: Since you asked what new Corvettes are SELLING for, that’s a completely different story than what the MSRP’s are. For example, the lowest MSRP you will find on ANY new corvette is $47-$48K; however I can point you to dealerships all day long, selling NEW Corvettes at $41K. Last year, I watched a new one sell for $39,900. What’s happening is that Corvettes are a discretionary purchase; and in a depressed economy people are not jumping to buy one. Some dealerships are selling them well under MSRP to stir up sales.
Higher end models such as the Z06 are taking similar hits. I often see them being sold as much as $10K off sticker; I’ve seen nicely optioned Z06’s go for the low $60K’s.
Now the ZR1 is a special case. They are still selling over sticker; though I know one fellow who actually paid sticker price for his (and not a dime over). That car is produced in such small numbers that even the current economy hasn’t removed enough buyers such that the car doesn’t sell out months ahead of time.
Q: Why are Corvettes thought to be so much greater than Trans ams?
Considering the fact that they have the same engine and rival HP, why do people diss the Trans am and praise the Corvette? The top trim Firehawk Trans am outperformed the Corvette, for thousands cheaper. Yes the Corvette is faster and nimbler on average, but much more expensive. With the Corvette you are essentially buying the name. What about the Corvette makes people love them so much more than a car of equal stature? And don’t get me wrong, I love Corvettes.
A: The Vette will outperform the Trans Am on a road course.
mike d – The 2002 Trans Am weighed about 3,500 lbs. The 2002 Vette weighed about 3,250 lb. Hardly 1,000 lbs.
Q: Why do the police not stop corvettes with only one plate?
I live in NY state and it is required to have a front and back plate on the vehicles. Why do the people that drive corvettes think that they are special and only have one plate.
I have never saw a cop pull a corvette over.
Peek, he is not special to me.
A: Well, NY resident … here are some thoughts…
Pennsylvania is a “one plate state” and it shares a border with NY … if the one plate on the back of the car is from Pennsylvania … perfectly LEGAL!
An officer might notice a rear plate in traffic (regardless of make and model of the car) but does he ever see the front end of the same vehicle? If both vehicles are traveling the same speed … not likely!
Even at an “enforcement checkpoint” the fact that a driver does not have a front plate from a state that requires two plates could be missed!
Corvette driver’s might THINK they are special (at least a small percentage of them might) but the cop on the beat knows different! Yes, the police officers on the beat DO make mistakes. No they DO NOT catch every vehicle and traffic violator. Does it matter what make/model car you drive? NO! Does it matter what bumper stickers you have on your vehicle? MAYBE (lose the “COPS SUCK” bumper sticker!).
Actually, if a cop had a choice … and cared about “high profile” V+T busts … yanking a vette would be a feat! just keeping UP with a ‘vette where the driver wants to avoid you is one heck of a trick!
Q: Why do some new corvettes have a bigger body in the back?
I have noticed that some corvettes have a bigger body in the back like it stands higher than others why is that? Is that due to the trim? How are the LT1,2,3 different?
A: All the back bumpers are the same for the base, Z06 and new ZR1 Corvettes. The difference is the Z06 and ZR1 get wider rear fenders to cover the wider rim/tire combo. The Z06 and ZR1 also receive different spoilers. The Z06 is just a small lip spoiler, and the ZR1 spoiler goes all the way across the back bumper.
Q: Are American Corvettes popular in the UK and Ireland?
I am planning to’immigrate’ to Ireland, from the USA and I was wondering if corvettes were popular in Ireland as much as they are over here?
What are excellent road machines for long distance road trips in Ireland?
Any information provided will help me to determine whether or not I take my ride with me or sell it here, and buy a vehicle in Ireland, instead!
Thank you in advance for your support…!
There are so many great answers to this one question that I may be forced to put this question up for a vote., maybe not though!
A: There are very few Corvettes in the UK and Ireland.
Total new registrations last year were 1 in Ireland and 12 in the UK, while in the first six months of this year it is zero in Ireland, and 30 in the UK.
The Corvette is too wide for many roads in Ireland (both country lanes and city streets), and too expensive to run with high fuel prices and high taxes. It’s suspension would also be a bit stiff and limited in travel for the rougher Irish roads. It would be fine on the motorways, but then you won’t see much of the Irish scenery, and be limited in where you can go.
You can’t really do any American style long distance road trips in Ireland – north to south is about 350 miles, so easily doable in a day.
But why bother when you can take the more scenic roads, and enjoy the trip by making it last a week.
In order to enjoy the scenery, you’ll need something narrower, preferably with a higher seating position to see over the hedges, and probably a diesel engine (diesel fuel is cheaper than petrol (gasoline) and just as widely available). An Opel Astra 1.7CDTi would be ideal (not too wide, quick enough, economic, widely available). If you really must have something with more image and performance, try a BMW 330d.
Q: what ingredients are used to build Corvettes at the Eckler’s Corvettes in Florida?
Back in the 1980s, I worked for Eckler’s Corvettes, Titusville, FL. I had to quit because the fumes from the resin burnt out my sinuses and the fiberglass irratated my skin and the combination effected my lungs. I need to know the ingredients used to see what happened.
A: Fiberglass and aluminum for two.
Q: How much would used corvettes cost on average from 1997-2008?
Hello, based on your knowledge how much would used corvettes cost from 1997-2008 i believe there has been 3 or 4 different models in that time frame? I am just looking for one that looks like a newer end model but does not necessarily have to be a z06
A: corvetteforum.com They will have some for sale and the people there will give you help on pricing. You can get a cherry 2002 for about $25,000.00 or less. About 26 mpg highway, 22 mpg city (if you keep your foot out of it LOL)
Q: Do 1991 Chevy Corvettes have driver or passenger side airbags?
Ive been looking at this awsome car for my first car but my mom really doesnt want me to get it if it doesnt have airbags so i wanted to know if 91 corvettes have airbags, and if they dont then what are the years that do?
A: driver side yes ,pasanger side no
Q: Why do most of the 70’s Corvettes have such a low horsepower rating?
I have been looking at old cars lately and I was reading the horsepower ratings on Corvettes. In the late 60’s the things had like 400 hp and the 70’s Vettes are much lower (for example the 76 was rated at around 180 hp). I was just wondering why did the Corvette’s take such a dramatic decrease in horsepower and are they really that much slower?
A: The federal government imposed emissions limits on vehicles. The only technology available to meet those emission standards reduced the horsepower output substantially. They also mandated the use of “5 mph” bumpers in 1974, which is also when the emissions restrictions really started to tighten up, and they continued to do so each year for several years.
Q: What are your thoughts on 1981 corvettes and the twin throttle body set up?
ive been looking at a 1981 vette for a few days now, and i wanted everyones thoughts on them good or bad. also how easy is it to upgrade the twin throttle body fuel injection. i heard its relatively easy to get 350hp out of the L81 350. any suggestions? any weak spots in general?
A: Actually this was the last of what many Corvette enthausiasts said was the real Corvettes. After this setup the switched over to the Crossfire fuel injection system. This set up was very good design to be honest and why they dumped this in favor of the cross fire fuel injection I’ll never know. The only draw back was the throttle cable because it had to operate both throttle bodies, other than that, awesome set up
Q: Do the new Corvettes come with break in oil from the factory ?
I just bought a 2008 and someone asked about the break in oil. I didn’t think that they did that any more.
A: They’re just referring to the break in oil change. Change your oil and filter at 500, 1500, and then 3,000 miles and you should have a VERY good break in. Some people will say you don’t have to change it that often to break in, but you spent 50k or 60k on your Vette, what’s twenty bucks worth of oil and filter? Change it every 3,000 miles after that and remember not to start using a synthetic oil until after about 20,000 miles.
Q: Can Corvettes be ordered in a custom color?
Buying a Corvette isn’t the same as buying a Cavilier. It’s a pretty special purchase. So, can you order one in a custom color, or at least a color other than the standard available ones?
GM just emailed me and said it was not possible because they cannot keep so many paints on hand. That really made the seesaw tilt in the Cayman’s favor.
A: You can order your Vette in any colors that Chevrolet offers for the model. Some colors cost more than others. But if you have a custom color that is not in their line, no.
Go to the Corvette page at Chevrolet.com and you can see the colors available for the current production.
