Q: Has Anyone taken The California insurance sales license test?
I am studying for the California Insurance sales license test, online. Life agent combo for life/accident insurance. Has anyone taken the on-site test? Do you know what score I will need to pass, and how is the test? Did you need to study very much to be able to pass? It is multiple choice but So many questions seem similar, it it challenging to keep them all straight….I would love to hear anyone’s experience with this test. Thanks!

A: I assume you finished the school. I would call the school and ask them if they have a prep class.

It helps you pass the test. I suggest Mike Russ. I went there and the prep class really helped.

I bought a car in auction in california, I filled up forms for registration and paid the fee there, But the car is not insured, What should i do to get the car insured, Is it legal to drive in california without insurance ?

Q: I just moved from Massachusetts to California. Will my auto insurance/accident history get transfered?
I have heard that Massachusetts insurance companies are typically independent of California insurance companies. As a consequence, California insurance companies wont have access to my records in Mass. This would mean that my old claims/history won’t affect my new insurance policy in California. Can someone tell me if this true.

Thanks

A: Short answer: Yes it will.

Long Answer: CLUE stands for Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange, which is run by ChoicePoint Inc. in Atlanta. It maintains a claims database that insurance companies use to decide who gets auto and homeowners insurance and how much they pay.

When it comes to auto reports, claims related to your vehicle or to your address show up on your CLUE report even if they have nothing to do with you. ChoicePoint says it encourages insurance companies to verify the information.

If you plan to insurance shop, consider ordering your CLUE report ahead of time so you won’t be surprised as I was and will have a chance to correct errors. As I found out, you only need to order one report for your whole household. You can order over the Internet (www.choicepoint.com or www.consumerdisclosure.com) if you were denied insurance or by calling 1-866-527-2600. You might want to check your credit report too if you haven’t recently, since many insurance companies also rely on it in setting rates.

These questions can also be answered by a qualified insurance agent. I would suggest going to a free service such as: http://www.insureme.com/landing.aspx?Refby=614498&Type=auto. It’s a web site that offers insurance information & information on policies nationwide. It also gives you the option to call local agents to get any of your questions answered. This service is 100% free and you are not obligated to buy anything. It is simply a way to get insurance information and be able to instantly compare rates in your area to find the best price/coverage.

Q: Why did the State of california insurance commissioner buy so many cars?
Meg Whitman, in her campaign for California Governor, has made repeated claims that Steve Poizner has leased or purchased a bunch of new cars and suv’s, including Chevy Impalas with street packages. These purchases were made during the states budget crunch. What gives?

A: Probably some arm twisting from the Obama Administration to purchase those crummy GM products now that it is Government Motors.

Q: how much will cost to give birth in the hospital in California without insurance?
I live in California and I’m to have my baby in 8 months. How much will cost to give birth in hospital without insurance? By the way, I am not a U.S. citizen. Thanks a lot!

A: You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here – healthquotes.awardspace.info

Q: What is the best type of renters insurance available in California?
I want to get renters insurance in California, any good affordable ones available? I noticed nationwide and statefarm are not available here. I am using Geico for car insurance. TIA!

A: Does Geico do renters insurance in CA? That’s the first place I’d check.

Otherwise, policies are pretty similar, and cost about the same amount – $150 for $20,000 of contents coverage.

Any local, independent agent (which isn’t Nationwide or State Farm) should be able to help you with this. Unless you want to go it alone with Geico.

Q: Who has the best health insurance in California for college students?
I am a full time college student, and I am looking for health care insurance, but I’m not for sure which to go for. I was looking up Blue Shield of California, Health net, and Kaiser, but I’m new to this.

A: I’m not a big fan of HMO’s, such as Kaiser, where you have a gate keeper system in place. A gatekeeper system is where you have your personal care physician “PCP” and you have to go through that doctor to get anywhere else (such as OB/GYN, cardiologist, etc.). I do like PPO or POS plans (Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Health Net), AETNA) as I can choose my own physician and I don’t usually have to go through them to get a consult with another specialist.

When choosing an insurance company at any point in your life, you need to know what you can afford and what your needs are. Find out exactly what each plan covers and doesn’t cover, how high of a deductible (the amount out of pocket you will have to pay before your insurance kicks in), what your co-pay will be (flat fee or a percentage of the office visit) and if vision, dental and psychiatric care is covered. An insurance broker may be able to assist you with finding the best coverage for you as well as explain the benefits of each policy.

You may also want to make a trip to your school’s health department. Some schools offer a low cost health insurance plan or can refer you to a reliable broker. Depending on your age and if your parents are a part of your live, you may want to check with them. If they have insurance through work, you may be able to get coverage under their plan as you are a full time college student.

Good luck!

Q: What is the best rated auto insurance in California and why?
I’m having trouble finding ratings by people regarding their auto/home insurance. I’m located in Southern California. I don’t mind paying a premium for better coverage.

A: That’s because there aren’t any.

There’s no one top “best” insurer, as “best” is in the eye of the beholder. To many people, it means cheapest.

Q: What courses do you need to take to become an auto insurance agent in California?
I want to obtain a license to sell auto insurance in California but am confused about what courses I have to take.I know I have to take a 12 hour code and ethics class but I am uncertain if I have to take a 40 hour fire & casualty class or 20 hour auto limited lines. Thanks to anyone who can help!

A: Do you want to be able to sell insurance BESIDES auto? If so, you need the 40 hour class. For auto only, the 20 hour class.

Q: Will my driver’s license be suspended in California for a non moving accident involving no insurance?
I live and drive in Sacramento, California…I also don’t have auto insurance. My car was recently parked at work when a delivery driver smashed the side of the car causing a medium-sized dent. I’m afraid to call the driver’s insurance company because I’ve been told any accident in California without insurance results in a 1-4 year suspension of my driver’s license. Is this true or does this apply only when vehicles are on the road or moving…hence, a ‘real’ accident? Please let me know.

A: California Vehicle Code section…
“16020. (a) Every driver and every owner of a motor vehicle shall at all times be able to establish financial responsibility pursuant to Section 16021, and shall at all times carry in the vehicle evidence of the form of financial responsibility in effect for the vehicle.”

Q: Where does it say this about car insurance in California?
I’ve heard on the news that it’s now illegal for a car insurance company to change your rates based on where you live, at least in California if not nation wide.

Does anyone know where any official documentation/websites that specific state this fact that someone could site if it becomes an issue with a particular company?

A: Well, California law doesn’t apply to the other states – each state makes it’s OWN laws regarding insurance.

I’ve checked with the CA insurance department website, and don’t see ANYTHING like this. I’d be shocked if it was true – I think you’re either misunderstanding something. It’s possible that the rate for, say, towing, or medical payments to people in your car, is a flat rate, regardless of territory. But it’s a flat out fact that some areas have more thefts, and others more accidents.

I seriously doubt that ALL rates are going to be the same in CA, regardless of where you live.

Q: How can I get help/medication for depression without insurance in California?
I’m in California, I lack insurance nor do I have money to see psychologists psychiatrists out of pocket. I don’t qualify for medi-cal and am not actively suicidal (so psych wards/5150 are out). I’ve tried a few sliding scale therapy options, but I don’t think I can make progress without medication, due to really serious issues with volition.

Q: what will happen if you get caught driving without a license or insurance in california?
i got caught driving without a driving license or insurance in california what could happen?
i am 21 and its my first time getting pulled over. i dont have any priors or anything.

A: What COULD happen?

You could have had your vehicle impounded (but it does not sound like that happened). (Veh. Code sec. 22651.)
You could be charged with a misdemeanor violation of VC 12500 for driving while unlicensed, and be sentenced to 6 months in jail.
You could be charged with the infraction of driving without insurance (VC 16029) and given a hefty fine.

Now, what probably WILL happen?
The 12500 will be filed as an infraction, and if you come to court with a valid license and insurance, both charges will be dismissed.

ADD: Well, Superman is right that if you did not have insurance you are not ENTITLED to have the charge dismissed. However, that is also true of driving without a license–if you did not have a valid license at the time, you are not ENTITLED to have the charge dismissed. However, in my experience courts are more interested in making sure that you get properly licensed and insured, and upon proof of both a dismissal of the charges is common.
