Q: Can i start insurance on a new car with a new insurance provider before the current policy runs out ?
My current car insurance policy runs out at the end of the month and I will not be renewing with them. I am getting a new car approx 2 weeks before the expiry date. Can i start the insurance with another company and ‘overlap’ the insurance ?
A: You CAN do that since you are changing anyway.
You might want to notify your PRIOR insurance company once you have the NEW coverage in force – just to avoid any duplication of coverage and any “earned premium.” If the company automatically renews and you don’t inform them, they might try to collect for the time you had coverage in force.
Just show them a copy of your NEW policy and they will cancel the old.
That’s the way it SHOULD be done.
Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!
Q: Help with renewing car insurance when buying a new car very soon?
My car insurance is due for renewal in the next couple of weeks but in June we were planning on buying a new car. What is the best way to deal with this situation? If I buy new insurance, do I just transfer it across to a new car and pay extra if it costs more? Will I have to stick to the same insurance company because a different car may cost a lot more to insure with them?
A: 1 – normally when you get the new car you just have the policy altered and pay a difference or get a part refund if the premium for the new car is different.
2 – early cancellation of a car policy nearly always means that you pay penalty and admin costs that would most likely outweigh the difference in premiums
Q: if I move to a new state and buy a new car insurance policy, must I report violations in other states?
i had two car accidents – one in arizona in summer 2004 and the other in texas in summer 2005, both of which i was at fault.
at the time, i had california car insurance, which covered my accidents. i did everything legally and paid for my mistakes.
i just moved to pennsylvania and need to buy a new car insurance policy here.
do i need to report my prior car accdidents to my new insurance company? if I don’t tell them about them, willl they find out anyway?
A: No, you don’t have to – because it will show up on your record, and then you’ll get either an “uprate” or a cancellation notice for failure to disclose.
Believe me, they WILL find out. PA is hooked into driving records with the other states DMV’s, AND the companies check claims records via CLUE report. And with two at-faults, you’ll get the cancellation notice, which will give you 10 days, and then you’re starting all over again.
Q: What is the proper way to repaint a brand new car? Insurance question…?
I recently had my car damaged in one of our Texas storms. It caused about $4000 in damage to the entire left side, hood, and both bumpers, and knocked out two windows. I just got my car back from the “insurance suggested” body shop and I can still see where many of the rock marks were painted over. There are divets in the paint in a lot of spots, which is better than the metal that was showing before, but not how I want it. My question is, shouldn’t they have completely sanded down the areas of the car that needed to be repainted instead of just painting over the paint nicks? The car is a 2006 Mustang that is practically brand new. Maybe I am wrong, but shouldn’t the insurance company be fixing the car to the PERFECT condition it was in before it was damaged?
A: sounds like a botched, cheapo job — that’s why you have insurance, so that it covers to repair damages to your car. you should go back to the insurance and demand that your car be fixed properly. no professional paint job ends up looking like you described. end result should be like new. if insurance is difficult, call your state’s insurance commission to complain and demand proper service.
Q: If I cancel my car insurance (I don’t have a car now) will it be difficult to get new insurance once I do get?
I heard it is very hard to obtain new insurance if you let your insurance lapse, please help. Trying to save money until I am able to purchase a new car.
A: Sometimes you can call your insurance company and explain that you no longer have your car. Some companies might be able to do a total suspension of your policy and hold whatever money you already paid and hold your spot in their company for up to 6 months until you get another car.
You should not be paying insurance on a specific car if you no longer have that car.
I would recommend calling your company and discuss your options with them.
Good luck!
Q: How to start a New Car Insurance firm?
I’m looking to start an independant auto insurance firm. What are the things envolved?
I like to create a new insurance firm where the firm’s policeis are independant.
What legal blocks and or issue are there if any?
A: Your best resource is to go to your state’s Dept of Insurance Web Site. You will need to be a licensed agent, financial stability, state bond, merchant bank account, fast internet connection, “know” people within the business, experience and a high enough bond amount to gain company appointments, etc. etc. Not easy but can be rewarding if done right.
Q: My fiancee and I are going from our parents’ insurance to buying a new car. How does insurance work here?
My fiancee and I are thinking of buying a new car. (2 names on title) Both of us are covered under our parents’ insurance, and neither of us have owned a car before. How does insurance work here in terms of transferring to the new car? Do both of us need new insurance? Any other factors or considerations?
A: If the car will have both your name and and fiancees name then you both will have to take out a policy covering you both for that car. I assume that neither of your sets of parents names will be one the paperwork to buy the car so they are not responsible for it.
Your ages and driving records along with the year, make and model of the car you buy and where you live and driving habits will help an insurance agent determine your cost for a policy.
Q: Dealerships offering 1 years free car insurance on new cars at the moment?
Is there any dealerships offering 1 years free car insurance on new cars at the moment for 18 year olds?
Like when you buy a car off them, get a good old finance deal and then they give you a years free insurance, it has been done before but I need to know where I can find it at the moment.
A: You can compare how the insurance quotes would change, for example here – autoinsurance.undonet.com
Q: can i switch over car insurance to new car/ Montana to Wisconsin?
I had insurance for my old car when i was living in Montana, liability coverage or whatever is the cheapest. I got rid of my old car, moved to Wisconsin and bought a new (used) car. Can i switch my insurance over to the new car i bought? I got my insurance through AAA> Any advice would be helpful>thanks
A: No.
You would need to reapply for new insurance in WI for your new car. Even if you still had the previous car you would have had to get a new Wisconsin policy on it once the MT policy expired at the latest. Simply contact a local agent to see about getting a policy (through AAA if you liked them) or shop around for a good price in your new address.
Q: How to get into a new Car Insurance?
About 1.5 yrs back my wife scratched another car while parking. The claim was settled using insurance. The expense was about $1500. Ever since that the insurance company, AAA, has been increasing our premiums by abt $35 on every renewal. Now I cannot switch or shop with other insurance company since they give quotes much higher than this company. But apart from this one incident we do not have anything else on our record. Also I get discount for Home+Auto insurance. The company increased prices on our Home Insurance too. I am badly stuck with this company now. I would like to buy Auto+home from one company itself. But I really cannot move my Auto Insurance. Please give suggestions.
A: They seem to be the cheapest, so what are you complaining about? I would check into higher deductibles to lower your insurance cost.
Drives me crazy (no pun intended) for someone to put a claim in on their insurance, expect the company to pay (in your case, $1500.) and then switch carriers. They paid your claim, didn’t they? Boo, hoo, your rates increased.
Q: Getting car insurance on a new car?
I’m planning on buying a new car in the next month or so because my old one is falling apart. My car insurance that I have now is actually my mom ’s and I wanted to get my own policy for the new car. Do I have to buy insurance before I buy the new car.
A: Unlike DW, I am not so sure you would get 30 days automatic insurance cover under your mothers policy – I would definitely check that out.
Once you buy the car you are liable for it as the owner though and should insure it, so the answer to your question is yes. How you get insurance depends on what your moms insurance company say.
Are you keeping the other vehicle? If you are then you are probably going to need to insure this new car in your own name. This could be expensive as you have not been building your own no claims bonus up.
I know Direct Line have offered a discount based on named driver experience (which is what you have) but I think you have to be insured with them to start with.
If your mom is not keeping the original car, why not just change it over on the existing policy?
Incidentally, if you are the main driver, you should not insure in your moms name. Insurers call it fronting, it is fraud and they could innvalidate your policy if you get caught!!
Q: What happens if you lie to a new car insurance provider?
I was cancelled for reasons out of my hands, apparently the insurance person didn’t record I had spoken to them during a conversation. So my broker cancelled my insurance.
Now everywhere I go they want to charge me a lot more for thsi cancellation and I can’t get through to my company to try to have the cancellation revoked.
What happens if I apply to another car insurance company and say i wasn’t cancelled. I pay ontime there’s nothing wrong, are they going to find out about the previous company somehow?
A: Thy have access to insurance records or will contact your previous insurance company and check. If they find out you lied they will cancel you. Or if not right away when you have a claim they will deny the claim and then cancel you………….You cant beat the insurance company…………md
Q: What do all of the new car insurance groups mean?
I am looking to but a second hand car but am slightly confused by all of the ´´insurance groups´´, so what does 4a mean – high/low some where in between? Does it mean that group 1 is low and group 10 (for example) is high? What about all of the letters?
A: General rule 1 is a cheap, micro car like a citroen c1 or similar, group 20 is an expensive, fast car like a porsche, not 100% sure what the letters represent but have seen that also…good question
Q: Do you purchase the new car or car insurance first?
I want to buy myself a new car. I have never done this before. My parents have always taken care of things and now I want to do this on my own. I want to put down a $15,000 down payment/cash and I have no credit. Will this be possible?
Do I look for insurance first? Or do I buy the car first?
A: Do you have insurance already? If so your current insurance is good for 14 to 30 days depending on the company by this I mean your coverage will cover you on your new vehicle without notifying the insurance company but you should notify them as soon as possible if you do not have any insurance it is likely the car dealership will sell you the car anyway but if you get into a accident your 15000 you put down just went to waste so make sure you have some coverage. hope this helps and dint wait until the last day of your grace period where your insurance after the fourth day will go down.
Q: Do you have to declare motorbike insurance claims on a new car insurance policy?
My husband is about to get a car after years riding a motorbike, he has had a few claims on his motorbike insurance. I was wondering if we had to declare them to the car insurance provider or if this wasn’t neccesary as its a different type of vehicle.
A: yes you do.
