Q: How much better gas mileage does the Nissan Xterra 4×4 get than the Chevy Tahoe 4×4?
I am thinking of down grading to a Nissan Xterra 4×4 from my Chevy Tahoe 4×4. I am wondering how much better gas mileage the Xterra will get compared to the Tahoe? Any help would be great! Thanks!

A: 17 to 21 highway and much less around town 13 to 15 mpg so your really not saving very much fuel Boxy trucks just dont flow thru the air very well. Added weight of 4×4 and there you have it. You did not state if it was a 3.3 Liter 169hp. Engine or a 2005 and newer 4.0 liter motor 265hp the new motor is more powerful and just about the same MPG. By the way 2005 and newer Xterria’s earned Motor Trend 4X4 of the year 2005 and 2006 they are real mountain goats. Only a bit thirsty.

I am looking at a 2002 Xterra with 92,000 miles on it, how many more miles can I expect before major problems cause me to get rid of it? It has a clean carfax history report.

A: It’s mechanical not a gecko, it won’t just roll over and die one day.

any mechanical item will last for many many miles with proper preventative maintenance. the real question is how well has it been maintained up till now. If there are no service records then be wary. if the owner is religious about maintenance and has the records to back it, I would say a good car will go 180K plus. I have an escort bought new and maintained well, it has 160K on it and all it needs right now is a little freon in the A/C otherwise it looks and runs great.

Q: Is a Nissan Xterra a good car for a new driver?
I can drive in about a year and I really want an Xterra. Some people say it wont be safe for a new driver, its too tall. What do you think?

A: i have a 2002 it is 4*4 if you get one the wheels are good but then the seats are hard and hard sterring but it can go places but dont be like me and get stuck in a dirt water pool about 500 kiloliters because aaa wont help you but if you want go for it just dont finance with them

I have a 2000 nissan xterra and am putting bigger tires I am looking for a speedometer recalibrater cant seem to find one for the 1st generation xterra online anybody know how to recalibrate it or where i can find a reclibrater?

A: The stock speedometer reads 5 to 10% fast so recalibration may not be as much a problem as you think. There are electronic speed modifiers and the old traditional change the gear on the speed sender method. Stock Xterria does not accept larger tires with out rubbing in front while turning. So better get that 4″ body lift installed or NO FEAR Pro Comp Suspension set up on there first.

Q: How does the Overdrive button work in my Nissan Xterra?
When I start my 2002 Nissan Xterra there is a light on the dash that comes on briefly and it says OD OFF. There is a button on my shift column that is supposed to be the overdrive button. When I hit the button, nothing happens. What is the point of this button. Is there supposed to be some type of indication that the OD is working.

A: The O/D Off light should come on when you push the button on your shifter. If it does not you may have a bad relay.

Q: What will a cold air intake do for my Xterra?
I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra and it crawls away from lights. How much would installing a cold air intake do? Is it even worth it since it’s not a fast car already? I want to actually move when I accelerate.

A: It should be doing better than “crawling” from lights as is. But the cold air intake will not change things much. Either you are expecting too much or there is something else wrong.

Q: How do I get the light off of my Nissan Xterra to change the bulb?
I’m having trouble getting off the left rear light on my Xterra to change the bulb. The manual tells you to take out to bolts and take the cover off , but it does come off easy and I dont want to break the light pulling it off Help!

A: look for a hidden bolt on it,,sometimes they have bolts you cannot see right off,and it may have a gasket on it that is making it stick a little also,i have never had one of these out before ,but i mechanic for a living ,and the ones i have done usually have a bolt that you cant see and they will stick sometimes,,good luck with it,hope this help,s,happy new years.

Q: What is a safe towing weight for a 2004 Nissan Xterra?
My parents are going out of town for a camping trip and are planning on towing a camper (approx. 2800 lbs.). Their only towing vehicle (1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager) was totalled in a accident on Sunday morning and so my boyfriend offered his ‘04 Xterra for them to drive. He is concerned, though, about the weight of the camper. He towed a “medium-sized Uhaul” when he moved about 2 years ago and said it almost ruined his power steering. We looked up towing capacity and it should be safe but I would like to know for sure. Thanks!

A: If your car manual says that it is safe, then it was tested for that weight and it is safe.

Q: How do you turn off the airbag on a 2002 Xterra?
Usually there’s a place where you can turn a key to shut off the airbag if you have a kid in your front seat, but I can’t find this option on my Xterra. Is it hidden, or not an option?

A: i dont think you can on that one. other than unplug it

Q: Has anyone bought a Nissan xterra computer chip that successfully increases speed and horse power?
I have a 2000 which I would like to add a little power to. I would preferably like to hear about anyone who has had a good experience with adding a charger to any 2000-2004 xterra. Please give me specifics on the driving differences, and what kind of chip it is/where you bought it.

A: those chips are harmful to your engine.. dont buy them
the only ways is by adding bolt on’s
the person above me is a retard…

that would do more harm to the motor, you will lose a lot of mpg
and might experience build up in the motor

Q: Can i fit a touch screen cd player in my 02 Xterra?
I am planning on buying a 7inch touch screen cd player for my 2002 Nissan Xterra but i don’t think it will fit because of the lip it’s got and idk if a non flip out will fit because idk if it’s big enough for it to fit.

A: What trim line is it? You should check out KBB.com to book the private party value. I would price it around that maybe a little less. I tried to do it for you and came up with a price around $9,500. I may not have used the correct trim line and included all the options. That’s why I suggest you do it as well. Q: can the odometer on a US xterra be converted from IMPERIAL to metric?
I have a 2009 Xterra that I bought from the states and would like to convert the odometer from miles to kilometers. Can this be done?

A: I think that can be done by pushing the button repeatedly for more than one second. on the speedometer. Let’s look into the owners manual section 2. I could not find anything however I think you can press and hold the change button that resets the trip and I think you can also change the odometer to read Kilometers. All I can say is to experiment Section 2 page 2- 5 has info about that but is vague on Miles to Kilometers.

Q: How do I remove the front speakers in my 05 Nissan Xterra?
I’m trying to figure out how to remove the front speakers (and later the rear) on my 05 Nissan Xterra. Do I have to remove the entire door panel? If so, how do I do that?

A: yes the entire door panel will have to be removed for this. remove all screws around the perimeter of the panel and from there its gonna take you lifting and pulling away from the door at the same time to remove the panel
