Hyundai Sonata

A: I have a 2006 Sonata GLS V6. Excellent handling and power. Transmission is tuned for smoothness rather than super-brisk shifting. 34 miles per gallon on highway (with a HUGE car!!!), but only about 18-20 miles per gallon in the city with medium traffic intensity.

I joke that this would be the ultimate car for a travelling salesman, but I guess that would make it good for anyone going on road trips all the time. Everything is lined with upholstery, unlike in Camry and Accord. The glove box has dampening so it feels quality and is lined. The trunk is fully-lined, but is not lined on Honda Accord. Go look at one and notice the light inside the glovebox and really look at how it’s put together and then you’ll know how fanatical these guys must have been. Rear armrest is good too. Back seat to die for, and the car seems like a luxury car if you’re riding in the back seat — the same can’t be said for Camry or Accord. And while the Camry and Accord have better recognition, it’s nice to have a sleeper. The Sonata V6 is faster than the BMW 530i, yet cost $20,000+ less.

I’d probably get the I4 though this time around for gas mileage’s sake. I’d rather get 24-26 consistently than 20-22 and have more power…but that’s me.

THE ONLY THING I HATE ABOUT THIS CAR IS THAT YOU CANNOT PLUG YOUR IPOD INTO THE STEREO AND IT IS REALLY HARD TO CHANGE THE DECK OUT. The car does come with XM satellite radio standard though.

ALSO, don’t forget – all the safety stuff is FREE on the Hyundai. The same can’t be said for everyone in the segment, nor for the 100,000 mile warranty.

Don’t forget that Hyundai has #2 owner return rate second only to Mercedes-Benz. I am in a business dealing with a lot of rich people, and the frugal ones snatch up Sonatas and Hyundais in general like it is their dirty little secret. lol, if you get one you’ll know what I mean. Once you own one you’re convinced it is not even comparable to Honda Accord or Toyota Camry, this is a car to be compared with cars that don’t exist. Why? There really isn’t another pseudo-luxury-economy/value-sporty car on the market, period.

Q: How can I find out how much a hyundai sonata/elantra price will decrease by the middle of next year?
I want a 2006 hyundai sonata or elantra. I was just wondering what would be the average price of the car next year. I plan to purchase it mid may or july.

A: well i think it will depend on the global industry as you can recall usa is having a economy crisis so that mean it could be a factor of having more or let me say higher price in all kinds of products,

Q: How do I replace my 2002 Hyundai Sonata shift lever?
I have a 2002 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2.7L. I started to unscrew the shift knob, but it won’t come off and now I can’t tighten it. I just spins around freely now. Any suggestions on how to tighten it or take it off. Thank you in advance!

A: Check with the dealer (you may need a Vehicle Mechanic)

Q: How much is the overage charge for miles on a 2008 Hyundai Sonata lease?
I am considering taking a job which will require me to use my 2008 Hyundai Sonata, which is a lease. I am reimbursed for my miles, so is it worth it to just take the mileage reimbursement each week and put it in a savings account until the end of my lease and then just pay the overage charge? How much does Hyundai charge per mile for exceeding the limit?

It is a 31 month lease with a 31,000 mile limit.

A: two arms and one leg should about cover it

actually – it should be in your lease – called the FINE PRINT

all the best

Q: How do I turn on beeping on Hyundai Sonata?
How do I make a 2005 Hyundai Sonata beep when I press lock/unlock buttons? The lights flash, but I want it to beep, too.
Why? Cause. It’ll annoy the owner of the car.

A: You have to press lock two or three times before it beeps, that’s what mine does.

Q: What glasspack muffler will best fit a 2003 Hyundai Sonata?
I have a 2003 Hyundai Sonata and I am looking to beef it up a bit with a turbo charger, some vinyls and a glasspack muffler. the muffler is my last step. What glasspack would fit my car best? And, is it easy to install? thanks in advance.

A: If you are running a turbo setup you want your exhaust to be as free flowing as possible…a 2 1/2” or 3” exhaust piping would be best, a high flow cat and if you are running a turbo on a hyundai motor i wouldnt put anything bigger than a small t3 turbo on it.

Q: Mechanics out there-do you have an answer to my hyundai Sonata problem?
I have an ‘89 Hyundai Sonata. The car runs well-when it will start. About half the time I go to start it it won’t turn over. The battery is good and the connections work fine. If I continue to turn the key over and over (and pray and curse at it) it will eventually start. Any ideas?

A: i think whats going on with your car is,,the solenoid switch on the starter is trying to go out on it,,i own a repair shop,,in Tennessee,,and this is the type work we do all the time,,i have had then in here that did the very same thing,,i know its aggravating,,because i was test driving one ,,on a rainy day and it did this to me,,if the engine turns over when you turn the key over,,its not the solenoid switch,,but if you have to play with it to make it turn the engine over,,you need a new switch,,and it is cheaper to bu y a rebuilt starter,,because the solenoid switch,,is a part of the starter,,if its cranking over,,but wont try to start,,you may have a ignition problem,,but i think your talking about the engine not turning over,,you may also have a ignition switch going bad on it,,they do go bad on these cars,,a lot,,your best bet id to let someone check it out,,it usually don’t cost much,,if any to get it checked,,then you will know for sure,,at least you,ll know what to tell them to look for on it,,good luck with it,,i hope this will help you.

Q: What oil do you recommend for a Hyundai Sonata ?
Just got an ‘07 Sonata today, and want to take as good care of it as possible to make it last the longest. As for future oil changes, what brand of oil should I go with? Hyundai does recommend Quaker State, but I heard that Pennzoil is also very good.

A: If your are still under your factory warranty, you must change your oil every 3000 miles, or you will void your warranty. With Hyundai’s extended powertrain warranty, give them no excuse to not honor any issues that may arise with your engine. As far as what oil to use, Quaker State would be fine. Your oil changes can be done anywhere, as long as you keep a receipt for your service records. Enjoy your Sonata!

Q: What is the cost to replace the left front wheel bearing on a 2000 Hyundai Sonata?
How much would it cost to replace my front left wheel bearing on my 2000 hyundai sonata. Im hoping it doesn’t cost to much seeing im a student and don’t have a lot of cash. Estimate or possible range would be nice.

A: For labor, it takes from 1 to 2 hours a wheel. That can be $70-$150 an hour, depending on where you get them replaced.
If you want a deal on wheel bearings, go to http://mibearings.com and fill out the form on the right side. They will send you an email with a price and link to the bearing.
I hope that helps!

Q: How big is the steering wheel in a Hyundai Sonata vs. Elantra?
My husband and I are going to kill each other over this, Is the Hyundai Sonata steering wheel bigger than the Elantra or are they both the same? Help before we kill one another!!! Or do you know where we could find out?

A: I did not actually measure them but I did work on them( Hyundai ) for 10 years. I say the same, bigger cars do not always mean bigger wheel. To be 100% sure though you will have to call the dealer, tell them to get the tape measure out Etc. I think who ever said the same, WINS!!……………………………………OK Put the frying pan down now! lol JK.

Q: How do i fix the sunroof of a 1993 hyundai sonata?
im fixing a 1993 hyundai sonata with multiple problems. most of which are cosmetic, and interior issues.. One main issue is that the sunroof does not work. the keypad that controls the sunroof is falling off and therefore the buttons do not work for the glass itself. is there anything i can do?

A: Usually, there is a wrench to manually operate the sunroof that comes with the car in the glovebox. It might be just a hex wrench….or call a dealer for a replacement one if it’s missing There should be a small round hole or one that has a small round plug in it in the trim piece around the switch…remove the plug and insert the wrench to manually operate the roof. motor.

If you want the switch to operate, you’ll need to replace it or the surrounding bezel or take it off and try fixing the switch bezel with glue or see if you can operate the switch better with it off. If it’s a simple three terminal switch, you can also determine which wire is for power coming in with a test light and then jump that wire to one of the other two…one to open and one to close…..check for a ground wire as well but usually the motor is grounded to the body/roof..

Q: Installation instructions for timing belt on 2000 hyundai sonata?
In need of installation instructions for a 2000 hyundai sonata. None of the automotive part stores here have the repair manual for my car and the closest hyundai dealership is five hours away. The price of the repair manual there is $100!! Anyone happen to know the correct installation???
Sorry! yeah, it is a 4 cyl.

A: It’s probably the 2 litre engine – double overhead cam. It’s a miserable job because the valve spring tension doesn’t allow you to hold the cams in place without a holding tool. Best left to the experienced because if it’s done wrong you bend the valves. Even if you manage to get it timed, getting the belt tension correct is CRITICAL – too tight, it sings – too loose it jumps time and bends the valves. By the way, if your car has stopped running because it stripped the timing belt, you’ve probably bent valves already. The 2.0 Hyundai engine is basically the same as the 2.0 Mitusbishi engine of the same vintage. You might find a manual that includes the Mitsu at your library. But be prepared for disaster if you try to do it yourself.

Q: What kind and how much oil does a 2001 Hyundai Sonata GLS use?
Hello. I want to change the oil in my father’s 2001 Hyundai Sonata GLS but he has lost the booklet and I don’t know how much oil to use. What kind and how much oil do I use in an oil change? Thank you

A: for the type of oil it should say on the oil cap, most likely 5w-30.

how much oil i cant say fore sure, is it a 2.4 liter 4 cyl or a 2.5 liter 6 cyl engine. the 4 should take 4.25 quarts and the 6cyl should take 4.5 quarts, but after filling the oil start the engine let it run for a min and check the level of the oil on the dip stick to see if it shows full, make sure the car is on a level surface when you check the oil to insure a good reading. then add if necessary.

good luck, hope this helps

Q: 2004 Hyundai Sonata is leaking water. i only had it for 6mos from a Hyundai dealer my warranty is is up. HELP?
The leaking is not in front but under where the floor the very front of the floor is. NO one eats or drink in the car. Can someone help please that knows about 2004 Hyundai Sonata leaking.

A: HI
If your talking about the floor board inside being wet then it may be the heater core leaking or it could be the window seal leaking. Or is it leaking outside the car? if its out side the car it may just be the A/C condensation.
good luck
Tim
